Charles Manson was little more than a duplicitous, racist redneck, who just happened to have connections in the music business. The man interpreted the lyrics “helter skelter” as the beginnings of a race war, and began building a small army of his own fascist brainwash brigade. Sad but true, boys and ghouls. So what as the attraction to Charles Manson? During the era in which psychotropic drug use was the latest thing, and everyone was so stoned out of their minds, that eating naugahyde seemed like a cool thing to try, is it too far fetched to conclude that Manson used the generally confused state of the nation’s youth in order to take advantage of homeless teens?

It’s time for some straight talk on the subject; Charles Manson, even today, gets tons of support. Why? Because he convinced a group of children to kill a pregnant woman and her friends, because he didn’t have the balls to do it himself. Manson is also credited with having a powerful sense of appeal to the masses. People forget; he was dictating a bunch of homeless, drug abusing kids. Manson put his followers in a situation where the most natural response is gratefulness, then he spoiled them with everything they wanted; sex, drugs, and a life without boundaries or moral limitation. The state of life at the ranch was beyond hedonism; Manson was king, and his “children” followed him religiously.

The night of August 8th, 1969, Charles Manson directly ordered Charles Watson, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, and Patricia Krenwinkel to the residence of Sharon Tate, and Roman Polanski, and to “totally destroy everyone in [it], as gruesome as you can.” Before the four even entered the Tate residence, they killed an 18-year old, while he was leaving the house. Afterwards they killed Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and Sharon Tate, who was eight and a half months pregnant; according to records, she begged to be allowed to have her baby before they killed her, and repeatedly screamed for her mother until she died. The next night, members of the Manson family continued their killing spree by murdered the LaBianca couple in their home.
